INTERVIEW WITH YOUNG NOVA

While at Ladies Love Project I caught up with my homeboy Young Nova and took the chance to ask him a few questions. Peep his Facebook page Official Nova Page!

What or who inspired your music the most?
My mom she introduced me to music. She introduced me to rap music blasting biggie, and tupac. My mom influenced me into my love of music. Kid Cudi, Kanye West, and Lupe Fiasco are the artists who inspire me the most.

How has New York inspired your music?
Greatly. I'm always talking about where I'm from. I was raised in the LES, and I live in Harlem. NY rappers love there city. So I follow that.

What type of music or style do you associate with most?
They call me a backpack rapper. So backpacking it's not mainstream. I consider myself an MC, not a rapper.

If you could collaborate with one artist who would it be?
Kanye West he's my favorite.

Five things you can't live without
Backpack, Ipod, Pen, Good cooked meal, My passion

ADELE IS GETTING ME THROUGH

I seriously would love to sit down with Adele and thank her for her album. It is getting me through a hard time of letting go of someone I've loved since before I knew what love meant. Here is a song that I swear was written for me, about me, and about us. We always had Riverside.

EVE ENSLER AND THE MANIFESTA

This book is amazing! I suggest it to all women! Below is the Manifesta to young women and girls at the end of the book. Everytime I read it I am brought back to life!

“Manifesta to Young Women and Girls”An excerpt from I Am an Emotional Creature by Eve EnslerHERE’S WHAT YOU WILL BE TOLD:
Find a man
Seek protection
The world is scary
Don’t go out
You are weak
Don’t care so much
They’re only animals
Don’t be so intense
Don’t cry so much
You can’t trust anyone
Don’t talk to strangers
People will take advantage of you
Close your legs
Girls aren’t good with:
Numbers
Facts
Making difficult decisions
Lifting things
Putting things together
International news
Flying planes
Being in charge.
If he rapes you, surrender,
you will get killed trying to defend yourself
Don’t travel alone
You are nothing without a man
Don’t make the first move,
wait for him to notice you
Don’t be too loud
Follow the crowd
Obey the laws
Don’t know too much
Tone it down
Find someone rich
It’s how you look that matters,
not what you think.

HERE’S WHAT I’M TELLING YOU:
Everyone’s making everything up
There is no one in charge except for those
who pretend to be
No one is coming
No one is going to
Rescue you
Mind-read your needs
Know your body better than you

Always fight back
Ask for it
Say you want it
Cherish your solitude
Take trains by yourself to places
you’ve never been
Sleep out alone under the stars
Learn how to drive a stick shift
Go so far away that you stop being afraid of
not coming back
Say no when you don’t want to do something
Say yes if your instincts are strong
even if everyone around you disagrees
Decide whether you want to be liked or admired
Decide if fitting in is more important than finding out
what you’re doing here
Believe in kissing
Fight for tenderness
Care as much as you do
Cry as much as you want
Insist the world be theater
and love the drama
Take your time
Move as fast as you do
as long as it’s your speed.
Ask yourself these questions:
Why am I whispering when I have something to say?
Why am I adding a question mark at the end
of all my sentences?
Why am I apologizing every time I express my needs?
Why am I hunching over?
Starving myself when I love food?
Pretending it doesn’t mean that much to me?
Hurting myself when I mean to scream?
Why am I waiting
Whining
Pining
Fitting in?
You know the truth:
Sometimes it does hurt that much
Horses can feel love
Your mother wanted more than that
It’s easier to be mean than smart
But that isn’t who you are.

COME AS YOU ARE...

Reveal Yourself
Make it worth something
more than what your doubts whisper
For everything it could have been
everything it should be
What we give up on
Simply because we fear
Come as you are
Let the surroundings that entertain you now
be worth what was left behind

Wonder Woman Type Ish and the Save Me Vibe

I had the realization that most of the dudes I've dated or had relationships with have this save me vibe about them. I don't know if its just my nature to want to grab someone, and let them see all the potential they carry along with the chips on there shoulder. Let me not forget the confusion that provides a fuckin roller coaster ride for me worse than some Cyclone shit. I can't help to be attracted to the dudes that feel they have something to prove to people. In all actuality we don't need to prove shit to anyone. I am often the light to the darkness they exude. Little do they know I am just as screwed up, but its all touch and go you know. I feel like people use problems, or bad behaviors as an excuse to not be with someone who HELLO could actually make your life alittle more fuckin enjoyable. I am not bitter. Trust. I am just trying to figure out what the balls to do. I certainly love my artsy dudes, and could by no means settle down with an investment banker that would just not rock with me. So is it possible at all to find a man in NY who is screwed up realizes it, but owns up to that shit? Who isn't looking to find a quick fix, but find a solution! I can't do this fixer uper ish anymore. I need an equal, and I don't mean money cause I don't have much of that. An equal on a spiritual, mental level. I don't wanna save someone I wanna exsist with someone.

NEW POEM

Stand Alone  by: Tina G.

Rhythm
Repetition
Heartbeat
Drumbeat
Dark rooted every hair
Not naturally
But it always felt that way
The stories of the players
The rise and the fall
And what would you say if you could?
Up jump the boogie
You won't fight for me
And I don't mean fists behind bad memories deep rooted
Afterall can't put a heart there if it ain't beating
Then the butterflies come in
Just when you realize they have nothing to offer
Nor does the person who put them there in the first place
Run and Panic
Feel
The vibrations within band hoodies that fit us to snug
Because we're grown now
Take the past to the bridge
Watch it fall
Stand Alone

IS IT TO LATE TO CHANGE MY ORDER?

Change!
A concept that not most can grasp. Change is painful, joyful, and a huge challenge. It is inevitable. I have a very Buddhist mind frame. I think change should be taught, felt, experienced, made love to. We live in a world where so many people are afarid to move forward. Change scares people makes them feel unsure. I myself have been in moments where I have felt this way, but when I am in it damn change feels good. We gotta really go through some hardship for the current to pass, and you will reap the benefits of change. It isn't to late to change your order. I like my life straight up, and with an extra side of pickles. Check please, and keep the change coming. Embrace Change!
